Disc Golf is finally coming to Danbury!  What was once a craterous void of disc golf is about to be filled to the brim with fairways. Matt Serfass of Danbury Disc Golf Group (D2G2) led the charge to bring our sport to his city.  To do it he gathered a coalition of like-minded friends, neighbors and fellow disc golfers who formed the foundation of the Danbury club. They forged a partnership with Westchester Disc Golf Enthusiasts (WeDGE) who provided support, insight and resources.  After nearly two years of petitioning, campaigning and meetings with city officials, the group has obtained permission to build a course. Just having a nearby course to play would have made Serfass and other Danbury locals happy enough but there’s icing on this cake! WeDGE has retained the services of professional disc golfer and course designer, Steve Brinster to design the course.  The sport has evolved past the point where players are adequately engaged and challenged by courses with haphazard or mediocre design. Steve’s experience, creativity and dedication to creating compelling, fair holes means that Farrington Woods is sure be one of the best courses in the area.

“I am a huge fan of the outdoors and Disc Golf. On my first hike through the beauty of Farrington Woods I immediately knew it would be an excellent place to build a Disc Golf course. As a long time Danbury resident I thought it would be a great way to give back and build the community, as well as secure a course in my own backyard. There was nothing within 20 miles of Danbury and now, through the amazing support of countless individuals, disc golfers, and businesses, there will be!” -Matt Serfass

?           brinster design   “I’m really excited to announce the location of my latest course design at Farrington Woods Park in Danbury, Connecticut! The park is city owned and is located on the New York/Connecticut border. After three visits I have 10 holes marked for preliminary clearing. The property has a ton of potential, and with some work, it will hopefully become one of the best courses in the region. I want to thank WeDGE for giving me the opportunity to design this course. As well as a special thanks to Matt Serfass for spearheading this project. The land has been challenging to work with, but I’m very happy with the progress made so far.” – Steve Brinster

We need your help!

Fundraising for this project will be critical to its success.  It’s the most ambitious project we’ve ever undertaken.  The land clearing will be especially challenging for both our volunteers and our budget. Baskets, signage and top-notch course design need to be paid for and we need your help to do it. Some of us have altruistic reasons to back this project. Others will be content to give support for the very reasonable (if selfish) motivation of having a great new course in their back yard.  Whether your reason is growing the sport you love, having a local place to play it or helping to support Steve Brinster’s ambitions to hone his craft please find a way to help back this project. Because WeDGE is a 501(3)c charitable organization, your contribution is tax deductible. Outlined below are several levels of support. Each one has a gift or benefit attached to it. Please choose the one that fits you best and help bring disc golf to Danbury!

Your employer may help! Many companies match the charitable gifts of their employees. Please check to see if your employer has a gift matching program in place. Your company may have a program in place that could double or even triple your contribution!
